Extend the Day, Extend the Play:
Optional Additional Programming
Parkview is proud to offer optional afternoon programming that rounds out a play-based learning experience.
What to know
These classes meet from 12:05 to 2:05 p.m. and are open to Turtle and Caterpillar students only.
Parents may enroll their students in one, two or all three programs, but limited spots are available, so enrollment in all three programs is not guaranteed.
Students bring their own nut-free lunch.
Afternoon programs generally start after Labor Day and in mid-May, but more specific calendars will be available at the start of the school year.
If there is a school event, such a Field Trip or Forest Day, there will be no afternoon program.
Monday: Extended Day
Extended Day is a long-standing favorite at Parkview. Each week, students get the opportunity to hear from and spend time with special guest teachers. We’ve had karate classes with Hernly Family Karate, storytelling with Professor Watermelon, we’ve learned about bats, pollution, flowers and bees from Miss Liz the Science Wiz, we’ve made gingerbread houses and done pottery. Each year’s offerings are different and exciting.
Wednesday: Afternoon enrichment
Wednesday afternoons are slower paced, focused and engaging. After enjoying lunch together, students take a few moments of mindfulness practice. They’ll work on breathing techniques or do some yoga or simply just slow down and enjoy some peaceful moments together. The afternoon continues with structured small group activities that may include focusing on the development of math and language skills, beginning printing practice, social-emotional learning and other tools in order to prepare for life after Parkview. This is all in a play-based learning environment where the journey is process-oriented, child-led and, most importantly, fun.
friday: Afternoon art
After lunch, our Afternoon Artists explore art in all of its forms in age-appropriate and engaging ways. This is our first year of Afternoon Art and we’ve spent time learning ballet, making sculptures and collages and working on the art of storytelling. Each week presents a new project or activity and is a great way to dive into art.
